Mark Lanegan’s been a busy man these past few years: he’s released albums with the Gutter Twins, Soulsavers and Isobel Campbell, collaborated with guys like Bomb the Bass and UNKLE, and even contributed an excellent Bob Dylan cover to the I’m Not There soundtrack. Still, Blues Funeral will be his first proper solo album in almost eight years, and the Popblerd family is damned excited to hear it.
The official video for “The Gravedigger’s Song” debuted a few days back. Directed by Alistair Legrand, it features a wholesome collection of rural American imagery: levitating girls in flowing dresses, amputated bedsheet mummies, rose petals with piranha teeth and lots of creepy fucking masks. It’s like a Jane Smiley novel without all the boring shit.
Blues Funeral drops February 7th and is now streaming at Exclaim. Stay tuned for our take on it.
