Earlier this week, word got out that the 64-year-old Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin became engaged. Inspired by this news, I decided to seek out a memorable Aretha Franklin 80s music video.
Back in the mid-80s, my dad would video tape music videos off MTV and VH-1. He’d edit it so that once the video ended, a new one would record. Imagine how many 4-minute videos you could fit on a 6-hour VHS tape? One of the videos that he recorded was Aretha Franklin’s Freeway Of Love.
The song was the lead single on Franklin’s 1985 album, Who’s Zoomin’ Who?. Clarence Clemons is also featured on the track and in the video. Who’s Zoomin’ Who? is the first of Franklin’s albums to go platinum.
In the song, Franklin sings of going riding on the freeway of love in her pink cadillac. Her fiance Willie Wilkerson loves cadillacs and is nicknamed Cadillac Willie. Hmmmm.
Congrats to the soon-to-be married couple and hopefully Aretha and Cadillac Willie drive to their honeymoon in her pink cadillac.
