Here’s how much we’re fiending for new music from D’Angelo. We are posting a poorly-recorded remake that’s two years old. Seriously.
Anyway, as rumors of a new album from D continue to float around, his version of Soundgarden’s classic “Black Hole Sun” just surfaced on the interwebs. It doesn’t hold a candle to the original, of course, but Mr. Archer does a pretty good job of making the song almost completely unrecognizable. It’s definitely got a strong stench of purple to it-like something The Revolution might have tossed out in rehearsal back in the mid-Eighties. This isn’t a bad thing, mind you. Just an observation.
Anyhow, D’Angelo’s got some overseas dates coming up, which is promising. Since J Records appears to have dissolved (right?) it’s unclear whether he’s still signed to a Sony-affiliated label or looking for a new home. Either way, it’s been twelve years since Voodoo. TWELVE YEARS. Time for some new music, bro. Shit or get off the pot.
