Boston’s own Junius are back with their first single from their upcoming record Reports From the Threshold of Death (to be released on October 25th via Prosthetic Records)! After 2009’s Martyrdom of a Catastrophist, a dense concept record based on the life of Russian-born fringe scientist Immanuel Velikovsky, there were large shoes to be filled. From the sounds of the recently released track “All Shall Float” (listen here) there won’t be any issue accomplishing the feat.
“All Shall Float” picks up right where Martyrdom left off: with guitars cranked and the reverb turned even higher. Think cavernous, like playing in a church inside the Grand Canyon that just so happens to have found itself on the moon; that’s the kind of enormity packed within this tune.
As is frequent with the Junius outfit, it’s Justin Martinez’s Robert Smith-esque vocals that drive the song forward. They cut through the wall of sound created by the instrumentation to deliver the perfect amount of depth for the track. As it reaches its end and Martinez proclaims, “We all shall float as one!” it is clear to see how Junius keep setting themselves apart from their competition.
