The Singles Bar: “On My Own” by Consequence feat. Kid Cudi
by MJ on Jul 9, 2011 • 9:00 am 2 CommentsDespite never really breaking through to the mainstream, Consequence has been a major player in hip-hop’s underground since surfacing on A Tribe Called Quest’s Beats, Rhymes & Life back in 1996. More recently, he’s gained notoriety as a satellite member of the Kanye West/G.O.O.D Music camp, appearing on several of ‘Ye’s albums. His energetic, youthful rhyme style hasn’t changed much over the years, but he goes for a slightly more subdued sound with the new track “On My Own”. Cons holds his own lyrically, dropping gems throughout. Kid Cudi adds some star power to the chorus, and ‘Ye’s production is delightfully retro.
Supposedly, the track was originally scheduled for release about a year ago. I can totally hear this song on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasty. Cons’ next full-length, MOD3, is scheduled for release soon.

I heard Cons and Kanye were on the outs because Cons wasn’t happy about his lack of promotion or push. Hmm…

It’s possible. But this track was done a year ago. So who knows?
