One of my favorite concert moments last year was getting to see My Morning Jacket at Portland, ME’s State Theatre. Not only does the band put on a hell of a show (no opening act, and they play for HOURS), but I was close enough to the front of the stage that if Jim James had done one of his patented head shakes and had dandruff (which I’m almost positive he doesn’t), then I would have had flakes of his scalp all over me.
While the band’s become best known for the experience that is their live show, their studio albums have gotten better and better over time, culminating in 2008’s eclectic Evil Urges. With an upcoming release entitled Circuital (release date still TBD), MMJ is prepared to come up with their best work yet. The album, recorded in a church gymnasium in Kentucky (churches have gyms?), is alleged to have a looser, warmer feel than Urges.
If you’re an MMJ fan (or if your interest has been piqued and you want to check them out), you might want to give a click on the widget embedded below. Over the course of the next six weeks, you’ll get five free tracks-recorded live at New York’s Terminal 5. If you sign up on their website, you’ll also receive a joint from the new album (not right now, but before the album is released). Grab the widget and share it, peeps!
