Former Fall Out Boy Patrick Stump has been on my watch list for most of the past year. There’ve been a few teasers of his upcoming solo debut over the past couple of months, but nothing concrete till now.
Apparently, Patrick is torn between two versions of his new song “Spotlight” and can’t figure out which to release as the single. So, he’s posted both versions on his YouTube page. One’s a little more in line with the typical Fall Out Boy sound, while one works a more synth-pop angle. Both versions are cool-the song is obviously well-written and the chorus is as immediate and anthemic as pop choruses get. The synth-ier version would get my vote (if there was a vote), but you can’t really go wrong either way.
Still looking forward to Stump’s album, which doesn’t yet have an official release date.
