Scottish outfit Travis was one of those bands who got signed in the wake of the 90s Britpop invasion that kinda never was, at least not on these shores. While they’ve been best sellers in the UK for over a decade, they never made a major impact on British shores. A damn shame, in my opinion, ’cause I’d take “The Man Who” or “12 Memories” over anything by Oasis (except for maybe “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory”) in a heartbeat.
Anyway, with Travis currently taking a break, lead singer/songwriter Fran Healy released his debut solo album, “Wreckorder”, in early October. I just picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and while I haven’t totally had the chance to digest it, I will say that I like what I’ve heard so far. Anyone who can get Paul McCartney to do a guest shot on their album is well-deserving of props.
Anyhow, check out this video in which Fran discusses his solo career, the future of Travis, and touring with Brandon Flowers. It appears that those dates are over, but if you are in Atlanta, Boston or New York, you’re in luck. Fran will be playing in each city next week. He hits the Loft in ATL on the 7th, Cafe 939 in Boston on the 9th, and The Bowery Ballroom in NYC on the 10th. Getting to see him in these very intimate environments (I’ve attended shows at the latter two venues) is sure to be a treat!
