I swear it was totally coincidental that I decided to drop will.i.am into the 5ive at 5 on the same week that the Black Eyed Peas released a new single. Unfortunately, most of the goodwill I’d developed through writing those posts dissipated the second I heard the group’s new single, “The Time”.
This song is so ridiculously lowest common denominator awful that I couldn’t even make it through the whole thing. It was quite obviously meant to follow in the footsteps of the Peas’ huge hit “I Gotta Feeling” (a song that everyone seemed to like except me) and as if to make the song even more appealing to lazy pop music listeners, the song’s chorus is…”(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. Of course, this all but guarantees the song will be a huge hit. Maybe after selling your soul, it’s easier to sleep when you’re sleeping on a ginormous pile of money. Whether you’re a singer, a songwriter or a rapper, if you have an ounce of creativity and artistic integrity at all, there’s no way you can have any respect at all for the Black Eyed Peas.

On first glance, I thought this was going to be a collaboration between the Black Eyed Peas and The Time (as in Morris Day and The Time).
Sadly. It is very much not.

Oh God, no! I would hope that Morris and co. would have a lot more sense than that!!
