Hey, that almost rhymes, right?
As expected, teen idol Justin Bieber opens up at the top of the Billboard album charts with “My World 2.0”. The 16 year old Canuck starts with 283,000 copies. He is the youngest male artist to top the Billboard album charts since Stevie Wonder back in 1963. Pretty damn impressive, if you ask me.
The top 3 albums this week are all debuts. Former teen idol Monica takes the runner up spot with her fifth album “Still Standing”. With 184,000 copies sold, the R&B singer scores almost double the first week sales garnered by her last album in 2006. Guess a reality show really does pay off. The #3 spot is taken by the 33rd installment of the “Now That’s What I Call Music” series, with 135,000 units sold.
Other albums debuting in the Top 40 include indie popsters She & Him at #6, hard rock legends Scorpions (Klaus Meine in the house!) at #23, an EP from Snoop Dogg at #29, blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa at #39 and electronic outfit Goldfrapp at #45.
In addition to scoring the week’s highest debut and the #1 album in the country, Justin Bieber also scores the biggest percentage increase in the Top 50. The first edition of “My World”, which has already sold over a million copies, jumps 50% in sales and jumps from 10-5. Other big jumps are scored by the “Twilight: New Moon” soundtrack (+20%, #17) and Train, who jump back into the Top 50 at #41 with a 14% increase in sales. Their “Hey, Soul Sister” is also this week’s #1 selling single.
Next week, the guy who discovered Justin Bieber will score the week’s #1 album, as Usher’s “Raymond v. Raymond” will debut on top of the chart. Also expect solid debuts from Erykah Badu, Alan Jackson and the Method Man/Raekwon/Ghostface Killah collaboration album (which I erroneously left off of my new release wrap-up yesterday).

I was wondering about this and my only guess would’ve been Gaga, but has anyone else had two top 5 albums of the original and a reissued album at the same time?

I think Gaga might have been the only one, but is this a reissue? Does it have the same songs on it as 1.0? I’ve never even seen the track listing.

Ya, I don’t know about that either. I just assumed it was like every other reissue. Maybe it’s not?
