The Viewfinder: Darlene Love Performs “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on “Letterman”

For the twenty-fifth year, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darlene Love took the stage to perform the holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on David Letterman’s late night talk show. I haven’t watched every single year, but this has got to be one of the better renditions. I’m feeling super Christmas-y right about now! On behalf of the Popblerd family, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

WTFF: Xtina Goes “Oops” at the Super Bowl

Those of you who watched the Super Bowl last night saw a few things. If you were into the game, like I was, you saw the Packers beat the Steelers in one of the more exciting games in recent memory. If you’re a Big Ben hater, you saw “The Rapist” get his karmic revenge. If you’re a Brett Favre hater, you saw him get his karmic revenge. Hmm…a lot of moral victories last night, eh? The halftime show was a […]

The Idiot Box: Josh Groban Sings Kanye’s Tweets? I’d Buy That One

Check out the spoof commercial Josh Groban made, during which he sings Kanye West’s tweets.

TVone Wants to Know: Who Should Be on the Next Season of Unsung?

If you’re a fan of soul music and you’re not watching TVone’s documentary series “Unsung”, you are missing out big time. The series, which concludes its’ third season this week, spotlights artists with compelling  back stories who have not gotten their deserved props from the mainstream. The folks behind this show really do their research-almost every episode has been sit-in-front-of-the-TV-rapt good. They’ve covered everyone from Donny Hathaway and Phyllis Hyman to DeBarge and Stacy Lattisaw, and this season’s final episode […]

The Idiot Box: Lisa Marie Presley Talks MJ on Oprah

Just because I’m a Michael Jackson fan doesn’t mean I subscribe to the whole “MJ was the greatest person on Earth and I love him! Squeeeeeeee!!!” posts that I see all over the internet. I don’t speculate on what kind of guy he was for one simple fact: I never met the man and I never spent time with him. I’ve worked around famous people long enough to know that public personas and private personalities can often be very, very […]

Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake & the Roots Give You a Hip-Hop History Lesson

The Roots’ turn as the house band on Jimmy Fallon’s late night TV show has become one of the few worthwhile reasons for me to miss my bedtime. Having one of the most talented, versatile bands in all of music has resulted in some of the most creative and spirited musical moments in late-night television history. Last night, Justin Timberlake appeared on the show to promote his new movie, “The Social Network”, and during his appearance, he, Fallon and The […]

Blerd Briefs: Katy’s Cleavage, Lyfe’s Sentence, & Hope Springs Eternal for R.E.M.

A clip of Katy Perry performing a kid-friendly version of “Hot ‘N Cold” on an upcoming episode of “Sesame Street” has been making the rounds on the internet for a couple days now. However, it now looks like PBS will not be airing the clip. Apparently, a sea of public television watching parents has protested on the grounds of Perry’s ample cleavage being prominent in the clip. While I question the thought process behind having Perry on a show aimed […]

A Quick 2010 Emmy Recap

I honestly don’t watch very much TV, so I must admit that the Emmy Awards hold only a minimum amount of appeal to me. However, I was interested enough that I managed to plug into a live feed for the first hour and change and got to see some very deserving performers win awards, including “Modern Family”‘s Eric Stonestreet (Best Supporting Actor, Comedy), “Glee”‘s Jane Lynch (Best Supporting Actress, Comedy) and “Big Bang Theory”‘s Jim Parsons (Best Actor, Comedy). I […]

Handicapping the Emmy Award Nominations: Another Round for Team Conan & the Gleeks!

The first step was made towards television’s biggest night, as the 2010 Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning. I’m not really knowledgeable enough to be able to call whether the right folks were picked-at least for the drama categories. I do know that “Breaking Bad”, “Made Men” and “True Blood” are all highly-regarded shows, so I would assume that they deserve their nominations. It’s always nice to see Mariska Hargitay get nominated for her work as Olivia Benson on […]
