Drews & Don’ts: 7 Modern-ish Country Songs That Actually Don’t Suck

I’m just gonna lay it all out on the table: country music sucks. Oh, there are qualifiers (there are always qualifiers). Before you collectively leap down my throat, let me list them for you: I am aware that country music used to be fairly awesome. So there’s no need to remind me that Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson exist; I’m keenly aware of them and have nothing but respect for their art. “Jolene”? “The Gambler”? “The Devil Went Down to […]

Chart Stalker Extra: It Was Twenty Years Ago Today…(Almost)

When you see that there’s a Chart Stalker Extra, you know it means one thing. This week’s Billboard chart is boring. As. Shit. Really, it is. There weren’t any major new releases last week, so that means Beyonce holds on for a second frame at Number One, moving a still impressive 115,000 units. Chart Stalker 11/3/10: Taylor to the Rescue!!

So much for me and my prognostication skills. When Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” album came out last week, I initially pegged the album to do a WAY more than respectable 750,000 copies in it’s first week-coming into close contention with Eminem’s “Recovery” as the biggest debut week in 2010. Well, reports immediately started flying around suggesting that Taylor would come close to the coveted million mark, and now the dust has settled for the week, and Swift scores the biggest […]
