It’s hard to not look at the world right now and feel overwhelmed by everything that’s happening: climate change, police brutality, civil unrest, and the non-stop news cycle (exacerbated by the presence of social media) that keeps people either wallowing in outrage or trolling others for the sake of button-pushing. It takes a strong constitution (or a healthy dollop of ignorance) to push through all the negativity while also acknowledging the fact that there’s much needed in the way of social and political change.

Since returning to the music scene a couple years back, the legendary Andre Cymone has done his part to focus our attention to the world we live in, while keeping his outlook based on love and positivity. “Trayvon” and “America” are just two of his recent masterpieces, and most recently, he released “Give Peace A Chance” as a free download on his Bandcamp page.

A slightly updated (and a touch more funky) take on John Lennon’s Sixties standard, Andre’s version proves that some messages never go out of style. Listen below.
