I couldn’t post about Alabama Shakes on this site during their last album cycle for professional reasons. I will say that I was very impressed with their live presentation. I caught them here in Boston a coupla weeks before their Grammy-nominated debut album came out. Brittany Howard is a helluva frontwoman and…a big sista fronting a rock band and getting critical/commercial props? I’m all the way in.
It struck me as a little odd that the Shakes took so long to follow their smash debut up, but here they are with a new album coming out in April called Sound & Color. First single is called “Don’t Wanna Fight”, and I love it a lot more than I expected it to. It’s got kind of a Black Keys minimalist vibe to it. Should be all over the radio in pretty short order. My interest is definitely piqued.
