Sidelined by major throat issues for most of the last several years, John Mayer has been making tentative steps back into action over the past several months. Most recently, Keith Urban joined him on stage for a version of one of my favorite Beatles songs, “Don’t Let Me Down.”
My buddy (and Popblerd/Popdose compatriot) Michael Parr sent me this video, and it’s a little sad to see that John appears to have lost a bit of his range. He certainly can’t wail vocally anymore-not sure if that’ll come back with a little more practice. That said, he can certainly still wail on the guitar. So can Urban. The otherwise milquetoast country singer is a beast on the axe. Ridiculous soloing here.
Despite the vocal problems, it’s nice to see John back on the road.
