No disrespect to Aretha Franklin, but I still believe that Chaka Khan is the greatest female voice of all time. She can do funk. She can do rock. She can do standards. She can do disco, and everything in between.
She can even do gospel, as evidenced by “It’s Not Over,” the first single from her upcoming album (and first in six years) iKhan. Well, I don’t know if I would go so far as to call the song straight-out gospel, even though the message is explicitly spiritual and the track features a rap from top-selling gospel artist Lecrae. I could hear this song anywhere from the top 40 radio station to the gay club. Yet more proof of the versatility and genius of Ms. Khan.
