device2013 is a good year for industrial metal. Within the first five months artists like Combichrist, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and (hopefully) Front Line Assembly already have or will have new records on the shelves. Hell, even Filter has a new one due in May. Speaking of Filter, their former guitarist Geno Lenardo has joined with Disturbed frontman David Draiman on his “industrial metal project” Device whose debut album is due in April with the first single “Vilify” ready for impact imminently.

Also featuring Dope’s Virus on guitars and drummer Will Hunt (Skrape, Evanescence) along with a lineup of guests ranging from Geezer Butler and Serj Tankian to M. Shadows and recent Grammy winner Lizzy Hale of Halestorm (On a cover of “If I Close My Eyes Forever”), it’s hard to think this album won’t deliver but I guess we’ll have to wait until April to find out for sure.

For now, the first single “Vilify” sounds like a more savage, more tribal Disturbed. It’s obviously a “single”-type song but there seems to be some substance there especially with Title Of Record-era Lenardo laying down some added industrial crunch. Draiman is also in ultra aggressive mode laying down the f-bombs like it’s nobody’s business amidst some subtle electronics in the background laying hints to what awaits in the rest of Device’s debut.

“Vilify” will be released on February 19th. Device’s full-length will follow on April 9th.
