In the midst of mourning Whitney Houston earlier this year, it was noted that there wasn’t a decent greatest hits album on the market when the singer passed in February. Sure, the 2000 compilation Whitney: The Greatest Hits, topped the chart in the wake of Houston’s death, but the two-disc affair didn’t contain the original versions of her uptempo hits like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” or “How Will I Know,” instead featuring then-contemporary remixes that made the entire second disc of the compilation sound like Saturday night at a shitty gay bar.

On November 13th, I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston will be released. The set will contain 16 of her greatest hits, plus two unreleased tracks: “Never Give Up” and a version of “I Look To You” (the title track from her 2009 swan song) featuring vocals by R. Kelly.

As you can see from the track listing below, it pretty much contains everything you’d expect a Whitney hits album to have. It gives very short shrift to the latter part of her career, but you’d assume casual fans wouldn’t necessarily be aware of that stuff (or at least familiar with it) anyway. Me? As I’ve mentioned before, I think damaged, been-through-some-stuff Whitney sounds way better than pristine early Whitney (late-period Whit certainly screamed less) but for people who fancied her America’s darling, I guess this is the place you should start.

Peep the track listing below, and check out Whit’s duet with the Arr-uh on “I Look To You.”

Oh yeah! Here’s a “Best of the Rest” playlist featuring the best Whitney songs that didn’t make the compilation.
