The Cult have just come roaring back in grand fashion.  As leadoff to their first album in five years, “For The Animals” (click the link to listen to the stream on rollingstone.com) finds the band doing what they do best – riding Billy Duffy’s absolutely searing riffs and showcasing Ian Astbury’s ever-powerful vocal command.

Blerd commented the other day on the ever-growing trend of 90’s rock acts coming back to the forefront.  But it’s almost as if some of the truly great rock bands of the past 20 years are making moves to come out of that Han Solo-like carbonite freeze they’ve been in.  John Tempesta’s  drums and the rollicking keys provide the backdrop; Astbury and Duffy lay broad strokes to the canvas and offer us hope that Choice of Weapon – the band’s ninth full-length – is their best output since 2001’s Beyond Good and Evil.
