De La is back!! Sort of…
It’s been a long, LONG, LONG time since the greatest rap group of all time (in my humble opinion) dropped The Grind Date. In the meantime, the plugs have been touring the country and overseas, they’ve released a couple of mixtapes, and won a long-deserved Grammy for their work on Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.” They have finally decided to make their return-with a project under a pseudonym that’s got a wacky-ass premise. Just like you’d figure from the group that invented the term “cocksnot” on De La Soul Is Dead.
If I am to get the premise right, Posdnuos (AKA Plug 1) and Dave (AKA Plug 2) are playing fictional characters in a rap group called First Serve. Their upcoming album (due on April 2nd-the date is already circled on my calendar) follows the storyline of the rap duo hustling their way towards success. Sounds a bit convoluted, but I’m totally down as long as the music is as good as “Pushin’ Aside, Pushin’ Along”
Damn near a quarter century and these guys still have it! Welcome back!

Wait…so is this technically being released under “De La Soul” as a new album? Or is this a project Plugs 1 &2 are working on in addition to a new album with Plug 3? I’m confused.
Still totally gonna cop this and any other De La works, though.

this is definitely going to come off as incoherent rambling, for which I apologize…ha
I’m at a weird, excited but cynical interest level…..which I hate
I like the sound of the track, and even the conceptual idea behind the album….but part of me fears that it’ll come off sort of Prince Of Thieves-ish…just not nearly as good. Maybe its because I still associate Prince Paul & De La that that thought hits me, actually that’s most likely why….maybe I’m just fearing that day when my favorite artists ever drop a stinker, so I’m getting defensive….completely pulling with high hopes and can’t wait for April!

I have hopes! I think the narrative arc will be cool…there’ll be a lot less artists than on the Prince Paul album, so I think it’ll flow better.
