Like Rammstein, I barely understand a word that’s coming out of Kyo’s mouth but that doesn’t mean I can’t still love Japan’s Dir En Grey. Sometimes they’re pop, sometimes they’re metal. Sometimes they’re both. I discovered them after seeing the horrifying The Grudge meets The Ring-style video for “Saku” off of 2005’s Withering To Death. Since then, they’ve continued to both scare and intrigue me.
Their last album, 2008’s Uroboros, was one of the finest they’ve created. Come August, you’ll get to see if they can top themselves once again when Dum Spiro Spero is released.
