We’re down to the final two. After what I consider a pretty strong comeback season, the finale is a bit anticlimactic. With Lauren and Scotty as the only ones left, the story that drives the American Idol season is missing. Neither has the charisma of an Adam Lambert or Ruben Studdard. Neither looks like they’ve lived the life of a David Cook or Danny Gokey. They are simply talented children who have outlasted everyone else.

I don’t expect the judges to be hard on either contestant tonight, but I really would like to know what Simon thinks about this final two.

Let’s get to the hotlist.

Hotlist
1. Lauren Alaina – She’s exactly who they want to win.
2. Scotty McCreery – The teenyboppers are going to be voting like crazy tonight.

The Defeated
1. Poor Young Ashthon Jones
2. Poor Karen Rodriguez
3. Poor Naima Adedapo
4. Poor Thia Megia
5. Poor Pia Toscano
6. Poor Paul McDonald
7. Poor Stefano Langone
8. Poor (and bearded) Casey Abrams
9. Poor Jacob Lusk
10. Poor James Durbin
11. Poor Haley Reinhart

J. Lo Booty Alert
J. Lo is in a dress and sadly, I don’t see a bump.

Lauren burned out her voice in rehearsals, but the doc gave her some meds and she’s ready to go.

There are three rounds tonight. Round one is the contestants favorite song they performed during the season. Round two is a new song chosen by the contestants’ idols. Carrie Underwood will choose for Lauren while George Straight will choose for Scotty. And round three will be their single, not written by my wife Kara DioGuardi.

Scotty McCreery is performing Gone and he has an edge to him tonight. Not to say that he’s believing his own press, but he’s doing this cocky thing with his eyebrows that’s annoying. But it was well done, though that song is right in his wheelhouse and isn’t a challenging one for him at all.

elliehempleman says:

Yikes Scotty, not your best performance. Better bring it harder in round 2. #idol10

Lauren Alaina is singing Flat On The Floor. She sounds like she’s straining and maybe a bit nervous. She did have to grit through it a bit.

mrbjorke says:

Lauren’s voice is adding a grit previously not there #idol10.

George Straight chooses Check Yes Or No for Scotty. Hmm, I’m not sure this was interesting enough for the finale. If you wanted epic or outstanding, you’re not finding it here. But, I don’t blame Scotty at all. He’s signing to his strengths.

KimmyEason says:

Dear Scotty, you still bore me… #AmericanIdol #TeamLauren

Carrie Underwood chooses Maybe It Was Memphis for Lauren Alaina. Wow, this is a really boring show. I guess it was expected because with a lot of these songs, the strength is in the meaning, rather than in the theatrics. This show misses Haley and James badly.

aerocat says:

I feel like Lauren is the obvious winner, and that’s why I don’t want her. #AmericanIdol

Ryan finally goes to the judges. Randall says Scotty’s Gone was brilliant and round one goes to Scotty, but round two goes to Lauren. J. Lo says the same thing. Steven says the first and second round goes to Lauren because she’s prettier.

Taio Cruz is on the stage trying to look like Kanye West. Let’s be glad no one has to grade him. He sounded horse.

Scotty’s single if he wins is called I Love You This Big. Well, if he wins, I won’t be buying this one. Jimmy Iovine said it was a big song, but I’m not so sure it’s as big as Idol songs we’ve heard in the past. I go back to people like Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, you know, the heavy hitters and their final night wasn’t as bland as Scotty’s was. Hopefully Lauren steps up to the table. Randall says his range was great. J. Lo says he did an amazing job. Steven says he nailed it again.

amymoore15 says:

Scotty 🙂 🙂 I think you just won. #idol

And, for the final performance of the season, Lauren’s single if she wins is called Like My Mother Does. This is the better single if only because there’s emotion to it and Lauren really felt it. It was personal and it showed. Randall says Lauren Alaina has arrived and it was amazing. J. Lo says she may have just won. Stevie says she’s in his eyes.

Pinkyhotwheels says:

RT if you cried when Lauren was singing “Like My Mother Does”

Now, if you’re basing this solely on this week, Lauren wins the show. She may have actually trampled Scotty tonight who seemed a little disconnected. However, based on fanbase, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him win. But I’m going to stick with my girl Lauren who I thought was the front runner all season long.
