Mildly soulful dudes who play the piano? Check. Video directed by the star of one of my all-time favorite TV shows? Check. So why is it that I don’t like Gavin DeGraw more?

I don’t even know if I have a real answer for that. It’s not like the guy’s not talented, he’s just…bland. His debut album, Chariot, got the full-on workout from Clive Davis’s J Records team, eventually going Platinum following the release of three increasingly successful singles, including “American Idol” favorite “I Don’t Want to Be” and the title track, whose video was directed by Zach Braff and featured a cameo from his “Scrubs” co-star Donald Faison. Subsequent albums haven’t fared quite as well, and with his upcoming fourth major-label effort, Gavin is poised for an uphill climb on the comeback trail.

“Not Over You” is a cute little ditty. I can definitely picture hearing this song on the radio all summer. I can’t escape the nagging suspicion that it sounds a little TOO similar to another song (is it Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”?), though. Anyway, it should get Gavin back on the radio, and while I don’t see Platinum sales in his future, he could find himself with a nice Jason Mraz-like career renaissance.
