One thing I didn’t mention on the site was that I got to see My Morning Jacket perform live about two weeks ago. It was the second time I’d seen the band, but it was the first time I’d gotten to see them right at the edge of the fucking stage. How close was I? Close enough that if Jim James had dandruff and shook his hair at me, I would have been blinded by the shards of his scalp.

Anyway, the show was awesome…MMJ played for damn near three hours. However, one thing they did not play was their cover of Wham!’s “Careless Whisper”. I was hipped to this particular performance by Popdose’sJeff Giles (y’all), but a quick scan on YouTube reveals that MMJ’s been covering the Eighties classic off and on for years. Hey, hard rock bands have been groovin’ to the tunes of George Michael for years (see: Limp Bizkit’s cover of “Faith” and Seether’s cover of “Careless Whisper”), but this new Wham! ‘n jam band combo could open up a whole new audience. How about Phish covering “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”?

On second thought, maybe not.
