Although Seal is better known these days as Mr. Heidi Klum, he’s got a lengthy track record of great music (including his near-perfect eponymous 1994 album). Over the last couple of years, he’s made a regrettable foray into electro-pop (with the Stuart Price-produced “System”) and also produced a commercially successful but artistically lacking covers album entitled “Soul”. Thankfully, with the release of the new single and video “Secret”, it looks like the best version of Seal has returned. Hearing that husky voice over languid, smooth grooves is where it’s at. Not sure if this also marks a return to collaborating with producer Trevor Horn (who was responsible for Seal’s best work), but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Seal’s seventh album, “Commitment”, arrives on September 28th.
