A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to catch a singer/songwriter/guitarist by the name of Jennie Arnau at a tiny bar in Cambridge. It was the perfect place to catch this up and coming artist, as her singing style is made for intimate venues. Armed with only her own axe and a slide guitarist, she sang like the words were being literally ripped from her gut. I’d compare her to a Shawn Colvin or a Patty Griffin, but her songs cut deeper than that (think Shelby Lynne). She has a voice that will make you sit up and pay attention.

She also makes cute videos! Her latest clip, for the song “Bouncing Ball”, has a cute little semi-animated vibe that brings to mind “Sesame Street”.  At first glance, it wouldn’t seem like a good fit with Arnau’s confessional style (which is affecting, but I dunno if I’d label as “cute”), but somehow it all works out. It’s certainly one of the more eye-catching clips I’ve seen in quite some time. If you dig the song, make sure you check out her latest album, “Chasing Giants”.
